Event Stages
Day         Date        Event Name                              Starts
Saturday   30th July    QLD Middle Distance Champs          from 12:30pm
Sunday     31st July    QLD Long Distance Champs             from 8:00am

Venue
Yarraman is 2.5 hours drive north of Brisbane. Dominated by the vast Pine and Native plantation forest the event area stretches across the South Burnett plateau.

Terrain
Undulating pine forest over the entire map with a few patches of native forest along the waterways. Very easy to get misplaced. A lot of slope lines have been used during cartography to help the rider work out the ups and downs.

Maps
The maps have been prepared to the IOF standard for MTBO maps with the exception that we are using the Australian 2 x 4 track grading system. North lines are drawn every 300m apart in accordance with the MTBO mapping specifications. Tracks are greater than 1.5 metres wide. Paths are less than 1.5 metres wide. Speeds are mapped on the basis of how fast an elite rider can pass along the tracks. For these races competitors should note we have made the speed of tracks and paths consistent, i.e. the speed on a long dash track should be the same as the speed on a long dash path. All grading was prepared in dry weather. All tracks will be slower in wet weather.

Day 1 maps are A3 sized with a scale of 1:15,000 or 1:10000. Day 2 maps are A3 sized with a scale of 1:25,000 or 1:20,000.

The basis for the speed of the tracks is:
Fast: little or no restriction to the speed which a rider can proceed.
Moderate: generally good riding with some reduction in speed and a requirement to keep an eye on where you are going to avoid obstacles such as stones, rocks, ruts, etc.
Slow: sufficient obstacles to require the rider to pick lines to avoid obstacles. Consistently rocky, rutted or sandy. Skilled, fit riders should be able to ride almost always. Less skilled and fit riders may have to dismount.
Difficult: a technical track/path which may require the rider to dismount. Skilled, fit riders may be able to ride without dismounting. For this competition, Difficult grade usually means bad ruts, loose and rough surface or sand.

Yellow (Rough Open)

You can ride across/along all areas of yellow, and good luck.

Native Forest
All of the watercourses are surrounded by native forest which is shown as a pale green, not the darker green of previous MTBO maps, in accordance with the new MTBO mapping specifications.

Tracks

Some of the roads and tracks have a strip of yellow along one or both edges. Tracks and rides branching off from the main roads and tracks, can start from the edge of the road or track or from the edge of the yellow. These differences have been shown in the cartography. The IOF standard has been used for showing the clarity of track junctions where the lines of the two tracks join it means a distinct junction. If the lines of the two tracks do not join each other it means an indistinct track junction.

Green on Tracks

Where a green stripe has been shown on part of a track, either slow, or very slow, (as per the legend) then the rider can expect to get cuts and scratches. Where the impediment is only grass or weeds then usually these tracks do not show a green stripe, they are simply graded as slow.

Embargos
All Yarraman and Pidna plantations to the east of Pacific Highway is embargoed and therefore off limits to compeitors prior to the events.
